Selection, proportioning and addition of antifreeze
Due to the temperature differences between countries at different times of the year, water can freeze when the local temperature is
too low. The volume of the laser water circuit is fixed, and when it freezes, it will expand to cause irreversible damage to the internal
water circuit and the optical cable, bringing great losses to all users. Therefore, in winter, according to the ambient temperature, you
should choose the correct antifreeze for the ratio, and do a good job of laser maintenance in winter.
Suitable environment: ambient temperature below 0 degrees
When the ambient temperature is 0 degrees and 0 degrees below, customers are advised to add antifreeze to the cooling water of
the laser. The injecting of antifreeze will lower the freezing point of the water and keep the cooling water from freezing.
Antifreeze selection
The engineers recommend that the users choose AntifrogenN antifreeze from Clariant company. Clariant laser antifreeze is a pale
yellow liquid. If the professional brand is not convenient to purchase, for the short term you can temporarily use a large bottle of
automotive antifreeze Shell OAT-45°C.
Antifreeze proportioning
Clariant antifreeze is added in a ratio of 3:7 (30% antifreeze, 70% deionised water) and can withstand -20°C without freezing.

How to add antifreeze correctly
1. Disconnect all equipment (water coolers, laser source etc.), open the drain valve of the water cooler to empty the water from the
tank, then clean the tank with water and empty it.
2. Remove and clean the water cooler filter cartridge from the water inlet of the laser and install it.
3. Pour the proportioned antifreeze and deionised water into the same container and mix well, then inject into the chiller tank.
(Pouring directly into the chiller is strictly forbidden, as the antifreeze will not fully dissolve in the water and will easily produce
flocculent material to block the filter and cartridge).
Notes
Any antifreeze solution is not a complete substitute for deionised water and cannot be used for long periods throughout the year. After the winter, the pipelines must be cleaned with deionised or pure water, especially the filter cartridge of the water cooler and the filter cartridge of the laser water inlet, and the use of distilled or deionised water as a coolant must be resumed.
If there is a long shutdown or before the laser is operated, the cooling water in the device must be emptied and the residual
water in the device (including the laser and chiller) must be blown out using compressed air to prevent internal icing from
damaging the device.
Maintenance of the water cooling system
Suitable environment: available all year round
As we all know, the laser is dependent on cooling water to dissipate heat, water cooling system maintenance is also an essential
part of the daily maintenance of equipment, so what do we need to pay attention to in the daily maintenance of water cooling
system?
Selection of cooling water
Distilled or deionised water is used, the reason for choosing these two kinds of water is that distilled or
deionised water is less likely to produce limescale during the heating cycle. The use of barrels of pure water or tap water is strictly
forbidden.
Cooling water replacement intervals
It is recommended to replace it every 3 months. The water cooler's water tank is not sealed and is exposed to a dusty environment
for a long time. Dust, metal chips and bacteria enter the cold water causing the water to deteriorate and produce scale that
adheres to the inner wall of the laser's waterway and tends to block the waterway.
Steps for replacing cooling water
1. Disconnect the power supply of equipment and water cooler.
2. Drain the water cooler and the laser, clean the water tank and drain the water.
3. Clean the filters and cartridges of the water cooler water (some water coolers do not have cartridges, consult the water cooler
manufacturer for details) and the filters of the water inlet of the laser.
4. Install the filter and cartridge.
5. Fill the water cooler with distilled water to the standard level.
6. Turn on the water cooler and let the water circulate. Check the water cooler level display and add distilled water if the level
drops.
Note: To prevent the growth of bacterial algae, 10% alcohol can be added to the cooling water.
